MiFOOD and IIMAD organized a webinar on migration and food security on October 18, 2024 to celebrate the World Food Day. The webinar, chaired by Prof. S. Irudaya Rajan of IIMAD, featured MiFOOD Director Jonathan Crush, who provided an overview of the MiFOOD network, its core objectives, and key outputs. The event also showcased recent research from MiFOOD Workstream 1, with presentations by Dr. Arokkiaraj Heller (Dept. of Social Work, RGNIYD), Dr. John Abraham (University of Waterloo), and MiFOOD partners Anand Panamthottam Cherian (George Mason University), Anu Abraham (Peace Research Institute Oslo), and Shyma Jose (Delhi University). Their studies focused on the precarity and food insecurity faced by Indian migrants in Gulf countries, offering valuable insights into the challenges within these migrant communities. The presentations highlighted the latest evidence on the low dietary diversity among these migrants, the changes in their food habits after migration, and the challenges they face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic deprivation, social exclusion, and exploitation in destination countries.
Stay tuned for the release of these studies through MiFOOD papers and other key outputs.
